Square Peg for a Round Hole
Published in Paperback by J W Hughes (November, 1993)
Author: J.W. Hughes
Average review score:

great book........
this is a really good book, but the actual book material isnt' that good. the pages would tear and some of the photos are in black and in white, but in just regualar white paper.
the actual written material is very good. this book has tons of graphics and photos and even has some photos that show not only the shooter behind the picket fence on the grassy knoll, but also his look out and another man shooting film. this man was later identified as Mr. Arnold. he is real, and is shown in the documentar, The Men Who Killed Kennedy. they show it sometimes on the History Channel.
anyway, this is a great book, and the author is also a very nice man. he is an actual police detective and took alot of time to publish this book. he isn't as well known as Jim Marrs or even the biggest liar of all, Gerald Posner, but he is a good author, and this is a good book.
he gives students personal discount on this book and will even autograph it for you, if you request.

good book from a good man.

good books, but horrible book material
what i mean, is that the actual book is awsome. all of the pictures and drawings are in black and white, BUT, the actual book material ...!!! you turn the page, and the page rips right out. this is a great book. i recommened this book. it's also easy to read and is very interesting. if you visit J.W. Hughe's website, i think he'll autograph the book for you!!! anyway, i would also recommened JFK vs. the CIA by Michael Calder, Nightmare in Dallas by Beverley Oliver, and The Killing of a President by Robert Groden. okay, happy hunting.

Strategies for Stillwater: The Tackle, Techniques, and Flies for Taking Trout in Lakes and Ponds
Published in Hardcover by Stackpole Books (October, 1991)
Authors: Dave Hughes and David Hughes
Average review score:

You'll read it and discover why you need it
I used to think that there was no strategy, per se, to fishing a lake--a big tub of water you trolled until you got an arbitrary hit.

This book takes an almost forensic view of a lake's features--water layers, vegetation, etc.--and shows how to read them and catch fish. It's much more detailed than I expected and I came away with a real sense of how to find trout as quickly as possible.

A Truly Intriging, informational book trout.
This book has many wonderful pictures of trout in their natural habitats. It tells you all you need to know about bringing in trout in lakes and ponds. I am amazed by the quality of this book. It is a wonderful book that you won't regret to buy.

Super Graphs, Venns, & Glyphs (Grades 1-4)
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (01 January, 1999)
Authors: Honi Bamberger and Patricia Hughes
Average review score:

Super Resource
I absolutely love this book and so do my students!! The activities in this book are easily adaptable for any grade. This book has totally changed how I teach math.

"Super Graphs" is a Super Book!
"Super Graphs, Venns and Glyphs" is an excellent primary resource. I've used its creative, easy-to-follow, hands-on ideas in the past to enhance the First Grade graphing and data collecting goals in my classroom, and many of the Venns can easily be integrated into Language Arts. Even though the book is written specifically for Grades 1-3, I was able to bring many ideas down to the Kindergarten level this year. The author tells readers that her book is meant to be used as a starting point for ideas of our own. I highly recommend this book to those who would like to add some "sparkle" and creativity to their math units!

Tactics for Trout
Published in Paperback by Stackpole Books (October, 1990)
Authors: Dave Hughes and Richard Bunse
Average review score:

Best book on technique
Best book I have on fishing for trout in all situations. Fairly detailed, well-written (not overbearing at all). As far as flyfishing "coaching" books, this is it. It is intended for people who have some experience and want to learn more (no how to tie a surgeon's knot, etc. here) - rather it is about how to fish; reading water, using the right tackle for the job, etc.

Clear & practical advice, read it before your next trip.
One of the best fly-fishing books I've read. Goes beyond the usual casting mechanics and knots directly to solving the puzzles we face when on the water: how do I catch fish today? Covers tactics in general, plus specific techniques for fishing dries, nymphs, wets, and streamers. Well-written; author has clear, simple, very readable style. His only semi-flaw: he has a slight bias toward the bigger waters of the west. He has written at least 3 other books -- on hatches, reading the water, and tackle -- and they are next on my reading list. You'll want to re-read this book the night before every fishing trip -- and you probably should. I know I will

Tales of Trotter Street
Published in Audio Cassette by HarperCollins Publishers (10 November, 1994)
Authors: Shirley Hughes, Stella Paskins, and Ian Holm
Average review score:

Hughes is a gem - loving, gentle, richly depicted scenes
We discovered Hughes while living "down under" where she is better known thanks to Australia's strong ties to Britain. Also highly recommend her poems such as found in _The Nursery Collection_. Wonderful, rich illustrations; warm, loving families.

Terrific stories and detail for age 3 and up
Shirley Hughes's books are generally terrific. This is a great way to buy, since a collection is cheaper than the individual books, though the price is quite high in US $, being a British edition.

Awesome Baby!
MAN, This Dude says it LIKE IT IS!
IT IS A GREAT BOOK.
ANYONE IN THIER RIGHT MIND SHOULD READ IT!

It Makes You Think!
This book is definately a challenge to both sides of the environmental debate. Both conservatives and liberals are given plenty to chew on when the author reveals what Scripture has to say about our planet -- God's creation! This is an excellent research tool for Christians and non-Christians alike, when preparing any kind of document, article or manuscript regarding the environment and environmental ethics. I highly recommend it to college libraries and bookstores and professors! No matter where you "stand" on the issue of environment, this book will most likely challenge your position and possibly enlighten you to a new way of thinking.

Walker's Journey Home
Published in Paperback by Roberts Rinehart Pub (March, 1995)
Author: Helen Hughes Vick
Average review score:

Splendid Book
This book is a page turning adventure! I couldn't put it down. The intense details make you feel as if your in the book. This is a book you don't want to miss reading!

Amazing!
The first book in the Walker of Time Trilogy was probably the best book I have ever read, but it wasn't until last year that I discover there was a second and and a third one in the the series and I was in a frenzy to find the sequels! When I did find them, I was far from dissapointed! Walker's Journey Home rivals Walker of Time in plot and strength. The first book leaves you wondering what might have happened and this one tells you, leaving you completely satisfied! I have never seen such wonderful characters, so much detail and care go into a book until now. If you are a fan of adventure and excitement, please read this book. You won't be dissapointed!

Waxworks : Poems
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (04 February, 2003)
Author: Frieda Hughes
Average review score:

Essential and Astonishing
This is one of the best books of poetry I've read in the last thirty years. I've never read any poems like these. There has been a great deal of comment about Frieda Hughes' parents and how much her work has been influenced by her parentage. I don't see the difficulty here. Her subjects, as well as her approaches, are uniquely her own. What she does share in common with both Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath is her remarkable intensity and the seemingly endless inventiveness of her images.

It may be my imagination, but this book does seem to have a central theme, what we could call a plot in a work of fiction. The woman who haunts these poems is a mother or step-mother who is eventually revealed as a monstrous human being. Much of Waxworks charts how this woman has tormented the various speakers, who are, of course, speaking through masks the author has put on.

I found this a fascinating work, one I keep coming back to again and again. Each time I read it I find more to admire in it: and more to discover. The poems deepen with each reading. Read Frieda Hughes to hear her own voice and become acquainted with her own unique and complex mind. She does not need the reflected glory some believe her parents have bestowed upon her. She is a glory of her own. It is worth the trouble to read her as she is and not as an addendum to anyone else's biography.

Exploring the present through the wax museum of history.
This is a wonderful and very powerful book of poetry. I suspect many of the poems are autobiographical, although since the poet speaks through many historical personages, the autobiographical element is well-disguised. I've read very few books of poems that have this intensity as well as the enormous skill displayed in poem after poem. I would recommend this book to anyone, but I would add that it should be indispensable to any serious writer of poetry. This author is the real thing.

Why I Am Still a Christian
Published in Hardcover by Abingdon Press (October, 1987)
Authors: Hans Kung and E. C. Hughes
Average review score:

You've read the theologian, now meet the man
This short book was a pleasure to read. Unlike Kung's theological works, this "personal testimony" reverberates with his large heart and passion, not simply his erudition and education. Reading this book is an excellent way to meet Kung, not necessarily as a theologian, but as a Christian man of tender, yet bold, heart. I wish more of my seminary professors had shared his courage.

Beginning with the nihilistic void created by relativism, Kung asserts his conviction that real Christianity, contra nominal, organizational, and traditional Christianity, contains the values upon which to build a meaningful and purposeful life. That life is exemplified by newness, in attitudes, actions, motives, viewpoints, etc.

A rosy picture? Perhaps, but the addenda of "How Do We Persevere?" provides the essential balance. Only one who has had the courage to try, and be defeated by the church, can speak with authority about the means and reasons for persevering. I am grateful that he has shared this word with us.

In conclusion Kung challenges us all - Catholic, Protestant, Free Church, Orthodox - to hear the Spirit's call to unity. May this challenge, and prayer, come true in my lifetime.

Big Insights in a Little Package
This short book is definitely Kung's most accessible treatment of the essentials of the Christian faith. Written specifically for the average layperson, yet lucid enough to engross any serious theologian, Kung presents the basic theological program which is the essence of his much grander works such as "On Being a Christian" and "The Church." In a nutshell, Kung, like Luther before him, calls for constant renewal of the Christian Church in the name of the man who is its source and criterion: Jesus Christ Himself.
